Planning for a Bold Future: Bridget’s Story

Bridget and her family lived on a farm outside Zambia’s capital. Before she came to the TKP house, she had never been to a city.

When she became pregnant by abuse, she had nowhere to turn. She needed a safe place, and we opened our doors.

Bridget arrived at the TKP house with no formal education. She couldn’t read, write, or speak any English.

But she was determined to learn. She devoted herself to her education and participated enthusiastically in our literacy program. She said yes to new experiences, even when they made her nervous. (Bridget visited a grocery store for the first time on a trip with our county director!)

Now, Bridget can read and write. She can hold a conversation in English. She can even navigate public transportation to make her way around the city!

Today, as she prepares for reintegration, Bridget has big plans for her future. We helped her receive a trade certification in hairdressing and she has secured an internship at a hair salon. The world is open to her, and we cannot wait to see what she chooses to do next!
