A Reflection from Mariah

I can’t believe we are officially halfway through 2025! The past few months have felt like a whirlwind. 
 
In June, I spent some time on the ground with our team in Zambia – and I stayed on our brand new property! Our team, programs, and girls are all still settling in, learning things like how long it now takes to get from our property to girls’ schools and how to adjust monthly electricity usage. Moving from a one-room office in a house to our multiple-room, specially-designed office block has presented unique challenges and blessings (but certainly mostly the latter!), and I’ve got to say, our TKP ecosystem is teeming with life and activity!
 
I also feel like TKP is entering into a season of renewal – welcoming new staff members to the team, settling into new spaces, re-launching programs, and more. God has been faithful to sustain us through lots of changes and periods of growth, and now it feels like He is preparing us for new things.

Updates from Zambia

It’s been an exciting season at our house in Zambia! Here are a few of the significant milestones and moments we’ve experienced over the past couple of months:

  • We currently have seven girls living in the house, aged 10-17

  • Girls recently returned to class for the start of a new school term

  • We welcomed a new baby boy on June 9

  • We have one more baby on the way, due at the end of the summer!

June Village Outreach

At the end of June, our team met with 12 traditional village leaders in the Chikonkoto Village. In partnership with the Chongwe One Stop Center and other local organizations, we provided training on identifying and preventing gender-based violence and child abuse.

Our team targeted this area strategically because there have been an alarming number of abuse cases in this region. In recent months, TKP has admitted more than one girl from the same village. Conducting a workshop like this one will help local leaders become more aware of abuse, speak up in the face of violence, and help eradicate tolerance of abuse in their entire community.

Bidding for Hope

Through our annual auction this spring, we raised nearly $37,000 to support the girls and babies we serve. Thank you to everyone who bid on items, raised a virtual paddle, shared posts on social media, or told their friends about the auction. Your support is essential to fuel our day-to-day operations, and we are so grateful for your participation!
